Puerto Vallarta, Mexico—A woman was shot dead and a man injured early Monday morning in the Ixtapa district of Puerto Vallarta, just meters from the scene of a double homicide that occurred hours earlier. This marks the third violent incident in the area over the weekend, raising concerns among local residents.
According to preliminary reports, a flatbed truck driver picked up a woman from a pharmacy located on the main avenue of Ixtapa. Shortly after departing, they were reportedly pursued by unidentified individuals. The assailants caught up with them and fired directly at the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene inside the vehicle. The driver sustained injuries from a gunshot wound and was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Municipal Police officers arrived promptly, cordoning off the area to secure the crime scene. They notified the State Prosecutor’s Office, whose personnel have begun initial investigations. Authorities are currently collecting evidence and interviewing potential witnesses to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack. The motive for the shooting remains unknown at this time.
The proximity of this incident to the earlier double homicide has intensified fears among community members. “It’s alarming to have such violent events happen so close to each other,” said a local resident. “We urge the authorities to take swift action to ensure our safety.”
In response to the incidents, law enforcement agencies have increased patrols in the Ixtapa district. Officials are urging anyone with information related to either case to come forward to assist in the investigations.
The recent surge in violence has prompted calls for enhanced security measures and a thorough examination of underlying issues contributing to crime in the area. As the community grapples with these events, local authorities reaffirm their commitment to restoring peace and safety in Puerto Vallarta.
