Tiendas Bara announces Puerto Vallarta expansion
Tiendas Bara plans to arrive in Puerto Vallarta with an estimated investment of 400 million pesos and about 1,400 direct and indirect jobs tied to the project.
The expansion was presented to Puerto Vallarta municipal officials and is expected to place the discount retail chain in several neighborhoods, including La Aurora, El Pitillal, Las Juntas, and Ramblases. Construction has already started on several branches, according to details released with the announcement.

The company is preparing a gradual opening schedule for next year. The first stores are planned for colonies outside the city’s main tourist areas, where access to large supermarkets may be more limited.
Tiendas Bara operates as a discount store chain focused on household pantry products. Its format sits between a convenience store and a small supermarket, with an emphasis on basic goods and private-label products.
The company is part of FEMSA, the Mexican business group whose retail operations include OXXO and other small-format commerce brands.
Jobs tied to construction and operations
The project is expected to generate about 1,400 jobs, including direct store positions and indirect work connected to construction, supply, distribution, and related services.
Puerto Vallarta officials framed the investment as part of the city’s broader commercial development, especially for neighborhoods outside the hotel and beach zones. The announcement did not include exact opening dates for each branch.
