Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, August 25, 2026 – Three people were detained after location data from two stolen phones led municipal police from the Olas Altas beachfront to Plaza Las Glorias, where officers recovered a tourist’s beach bag, identification, bank cards, and personal documents.
The tourist had left the bag on the sand near La Palapa restaurant while entering the water. When he returned, the bag was gone. He called 911 and shared location data from the phones with responding officers.
The signal placed the devices near Plaza Las Glorias. The shopping center sits along Boulevard Francisco Medina Ascencio in the Hotel Zone. That moved the response north from Olas Altas into Las Glorias, where police launched a targeted search around the plaza.
Two men and a woman were detained with the recovered bag. The two phones and the other belongings were secured. The detainees were turned over to the Jalisco Fiscalía, which will determine their legal status and continue the investigation.
Police disclosed another property recovery Tuesday in a separate case. Officers found a Jeep stolen in Zona Romántica in Villa Las Flores after the owner reported it missing that morning. The phone-tracking case differed because device data gave officers a specific second search area beyond the beach.
