Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, July 23, 2026 – Emergency crews pulled a 48-year-old man unconscious from the Cuale River in El Remance Wednesday afternoon, stabilized him at the scene, and transported him to the Regional Hospital.
The Puerto Vallarta Civil Protection and Fire Department said personnel from its firefighting and prehospital divisions carried out the extraction and began medical treatment beside the river.
The man showed signs of severe hypoxia and hypoglycemia, indicating critically low oxygen and blood sugar levels. Severe hypoglycemia can cause confusion, seizures and loss of consciousness, but the city’s account did not say whether a medical emergency caused the man to enter or remain in the water.
Officials also did not explain how long he had been in the river, who reported the emergency, or whether he had a known medical condition. The sequence is important because the available information does not establish whether the loss of consciousness came before he entered the water or after he was already there.
Local reporting identified the waterway as the Cuale River, which passes through El Remance before continuing toward Centro. Civil Protection did not disclose the precise rescue point.
After initial treatment, the man was stabilized and taken to the Puerto Vallarta Regional Hospital, where he received specialized care. His condition after arriving at the hospital had not been released as of Thursday morning.
