Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Aug. 31, 2026 — WestJet plans 14 more weekly flights to Puerto Vallarta from five Canadian cities during peak periods of its 2026-27 winter schedule.
The added frequencies equal 56 Canada-to-Puerto Vallarta arrivals in a four-week peak month, according to route-by-route schedules reported by multiple local sources.
Our calculation produces a maximum of 9,744 additional inbound seats if every flight carries 174 seats. That is available capacity, not a forecast of visitor arrivals.
More nonstop choices for the bay
For Puerto Vallarta residents with family or business ties in Western Canada, the change adds nonstop choices and departure dates.
The expanded schedule also increases potential winter arrivals for hotels, restaurants, rental operators and airport transportation services across Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit.
Passengers will enter through Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport. Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico lists the terminal at Km. 7.5 on Carretera a Tepic, north of Marina Vallarta.
The additional capacity arrives as work continues on the airport’s second terminal. PVDN previously reported that the new terminal could begin opening in phases between late 2026 and early 2027.
Peak service rises across five routes
The reported peak frequencies compare WestJet’s coming winter schedule with its 2025-26 service:
- Edmonton increases from 13 to 17 flights weekly.
- Kelowna rises from four to five.
- Regina increases from three to five.
- Saskatoon rises from four to five.
- Winnipeg doubles from six to 12.
Together, the routes rise from 30 to 44 weekly flights during peak periods. Winnipeg accounts for six of the 14 added frequencies, while Edmonton adds four.
WestJet’s public announcement confirms parts of the expansion but does not publish the complete five-city table or the 9,744-seat estimate.
The airline said Saskatoon service will increase from four to five weekly flights during peak periods. It also confirmed additional Puerto Vallarta frequencies from Winnipeg without listing a route total.
Saskatoon International Airport separately lists five weekly seasonal flights to Puerto Vallarta. Published schedules for Kelowna show as many as five weekly flights between Oct. 25 and April 25.
“As demand for sun travel continues to grow, we’re proud to offer our most comprehensive Latin America and Caribbean schedule yet,” WestJet Chief Commercial Officer John Weatherill said in the airline’s announcement.
WestJet said its total Latin American and Caribbean capacity will rise 12% from the previous winter. The network will include as many as 1,252 weekly flights across 88 nonstop routes.
Seat figure represents maximum capacity
The 9,744-seat estimate assumes all 56 added flights operate during the same four-week period. It also assumes each uses a Boeing 737 configured with 174 seats.
The total does not account for aircraft substitutions, cancellations or seats that remain unsold. WestJet advises that its direct-flight schedules remain subject to change and availability.
The added service follows a difficult summer for Puerto Vallarta’s international traffic. GAP recorded 160,900 international terminal passengers in July, down 29.8% from 229,100 one year earlier.
International traffic fell 19.3% during the first seven months of 2026, while total airport traffic declined 12.6%, according to GAP’s July passenger report. PVDN previously reported the July international passenger decline and its effect on the airport’s overall results.
