What Insiders Should Watch Today in Puerto Vallarta – October 20, 2026

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, October 20, 2026 – A Las Palmas road closure is scheduled to begin Tuesday, with municipal pay delays and beach restrictions also on residents’ watch list.

Which developments could affect your plans or public services today? Immediate concerns include a weeklong traffic restriction, confirmation that municipal workers have received overdue wages, and swimming restrictions that remained in Monday’s beach report.

Las Palmas traffic faces a new restriction

Drivers heading east on Avenida Las Palmas toward Avenida México should allow extra time. The affected stretch runs between Bahía de Huatulco and Avenida México, and the restriction is expected to last about one week.

SEAPAL has published a diversion diagram and asked motorists to follow the marked alternative route. The notice does not establish a guaranteed reopening date.

This closure falls within a longer construction schedule. As Vallarta Daily previously reported, the broader sewer project was expected to take about six weeks. SEAPAL’s project description calls for replacing 66 meters of pipe and increasing wastewater capacity in Parque Las Palmas.

City Hall workers await a payroll answer

The most pressing unresolved issue for municipal employees is whether their October 15 wages have finally reached their accounts.

In its Monday evening payroll report, council members said approximately 2,000 temporary and appointed employees remained unpaid. Those affected reportedly included operational and administrative personnel.

“A municipality that doesn’t even have enough to pay its payroll—we’re talking about a complex situation,” Councilman Víctor Manuel Bernal Vargas said in Spanish, according to NNC.

Bernal described this as the second consecutive delayed payday, saying the previous payment arrived a week late. NNC reported that City Hall had published neither an explanation nor a payment timetable as of Monday afternoon.

As Vallarta Daily reported last week, Bernal has also warned that unpaid supplier bills are squeezing money available for wages and fuel. Confirmation of payment, alongside an explanation from the municipal treasury, remains the central follow-up today.

Boat operations and swimming require separate checks

Puerto Vallarta’s harbor master reopened navigation at noon Monday for large and small vessels, allowing maritime tourism, fishing and commercial activity to resume.

Swimming restrictions are managed separately. In Monday afternoon’s beach report, red flags prohibited entry into the water at southern Playa Camarones, Marina Vallarta and the mouths of the Cuale and Pitillal rivers.

Purple flags also warned of potentially dangerous marine wildlife at Marina Vallarta and both river mouths; the report did not identify the species.

Those are Monday’s reported conditions. Before entering the water Tuesday, check the flag at that particular beach and follow lifeguards’ instructions.

Rain remains possible as Trudy’s influence ends

The National Meteorological Service’s 6 a.m. Tuesday forecast calls for showers with locally heavy rainfall of 25–50 millimeters along Jalisco’s coast. It also says Trudy’s remnants no longer affect Mexican territory.

The rainfall range is regional, rather than a prediction that every Puerto Vallarta neighborhood will receive that amount. SMN warns that heavier showers could raise rivers and streams, cause flooding, and reduce visibility.

An umbrella remains useful for the day’s errands. If showers develop, allow more travel time and avoid flooded crossings.
