Puerto Vallarta, Mexico — In recognition of World AIDS Day, the Jalisco State Health Secretariat (SSJ) has reported approximately 1,700 active cases of HIV/AIDS in Puerto Vallarta. This figure was announced by Dr. Jaime Álvarez Zayas, director of the VIII Sanitary Region of the SSJ, highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat the disease in the region.
The data comes from the Outpatient Center for the Prevention and Care of AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections (CAPASITS), which plays a crucial role in providing specialized outpatient services. CAPASITS focuses on prevention, medical care, and the management of sexually transmitted infections, including both HIV and AIDS.
In addition to medical treatment, CAPASITS offers psychological support and social work assistance to patients and their families. “Our goal is to provide comprehensive care that addresses not just the physical but also the emotional and social needs of those affected,” stated Dr. Álvarez Zayas.
An essential part of CAPASITS’s mission is ensuring access to antiretroviral therapy for all individuals living with HIV who are not covered by social security programs. This effort aims to improve the quality of life for patients and curb the spread of the virus.
World AIDS Day, commemorated every December 1st, serves as a global reminder of the fight against HIV/AIDS. The SSJ and CAPASITS reaffirm their commitment to prevention, education, and providing essential services to those impacted by the disease in Puerto Vallarta.
For more information or assistance, individuals are encouraged to contact CAPASITS or visit their local health centers.
