5 de Diciembre Residents Seek Lasting Power Repairs

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, October 17, 2026 – Residents in 5 de Diciembre renewed calls for lasting electrical repairs in a report published Friday, describing repeated power cuts lasting four to seven hours.

PVDN identifies Ecuador, Bolivia, Venezuela and República de Chile as affected streets. Residents trace the interruptions to 2023 and point to repeated transformer failures in Ecuador and República de Chile.

The report describes a May 5 letter from neighborhood board president Salvador Pimienta, backed by residents’ signatures, to CFE’s Vallarta superintendent, Carlos Daniel Fajardo Vázquez, seeking a technical inspection and permanent repairs.

“We, as citizens, are paying for the service,” residents wrote in the letter, as quoted by Tribuna and translated from Spanish.

Residents reported damaged appliances, lost refrigerated food and medicine, and interrupted work. The central question is why repairs have not stopped the outages from returning.

The public material reviewed for this article does not establish CFE’s repair history for these blocks, a site-specific technical diagnosis, or a completion date for permanent work.

Those records would help distinguish repeated repairs to the same equipment from faults elsewhere on the circuit. They would also show what crews found, which components they repaired or replaced, and whether further work remains scheduled.

An earlier CFE explanation for problems elsewhere in Vallarta. On June 21, Fajardo attributed outages discussed with Romantic Zone hotel and restaurant owners to consumption exceeding contracted demand and overloading transformers and lines. That explanation concerned a different area and does not establish the cause of these neighborhood failures.

Vallarta Daily reported on June 18 that CFE was preparing a new substation in 5 de Diciembre, intended to strengthen service along the corridor south toward Olas Altas. Its relevance to the current complaint depends on which circuits it serves and what work CFE has completed on the affected streets.

CFE’s published outage-reporting guide lists a maximum attention time of four hours after a report when an entire urban sector or area is affected. It gives a general urban attention window of 10 hours.

That distinction makes the classification and timing of residents’ reports relevant. An outage’s total duration alone cannot establish whether CFE exceeded the applicable attention window.

Residents can report an interruption by calling 071 or using CFE Contigo. Have the service number or other identifying account information available, note whether neighboring properties are also affected, and keep the report number along with the time power stopped and returned. A shared log would make the pattern easier to compare with CFE’s records.

For damaged equipment, CFE’s appliance-damage claims procedure provides a free process at a customer service center for faults attributable to the utility. Applicants must describe the failure and its approximate date and time, provide identification, and meet the account and property-document requirements. Payment or repair depends on the claim’s resolution.

For residents around Ecuador and República de Chile, the missing answer remains specific: what lasting repair will CFE carry out, and on what date?
