How to celebrate New Year’s Eve and welcome 2023 in Puerto Vallarta

Like many places around the world, New Year’s Eve in Puerto Vallarta is full of color, celebration, and, of course, fireworks!

Even as a visitor, taking part in traditions and rituals during a special time of year is all part of enjoying a culture. At midnight, join in the local ritual of eating one grape each time the bell tolls at midnight. Then make your wish as you go, for each month of the coming new year.

Not all traditions can be seen. Some suggest that the color underwear you choose to wear to see in the New Year will bring you certain fortunes for the year to come. Red will attract love, yellow will attract money, and green will attract health.

Street parties, music, and dancing are easy to find all around the beach side of town. A stroll along the Malecon is the perfect way to welcome the New Year. While some neighborhoods are known for their late New Year’s dinners to see in the new year, others are known for impromptu dance parties and late-night food stalls.

At midnight, there is always a spectacular fireworks display that can be seen from wherever you are. We would suggest heading to the beach to see how fireworks fill the skies along the coastline of Banderas Bay. It is a sight to be seen as you watch the fireworks in Puerto Vallarta and see other fireworks displays in the distance from other locations along the curved bay.

Planning an evening? Many restaurants have midnight packages where you can admire the fireworks while enjoying a dinner specially prepared for you, accompanied by refreshing drinks so you can spend more time in the company of the person you love and less time planning the details. If this sounds like the perfect night for you, be sure to make your reservation! Dinner packages are one of the most popular activities for New Year’s Eve and reservations sell out quickly.

Puerto Vallarta offers tons of fun and safe ways to be in the moment this New Year’s Eve. Start at the corner of Pulpito and Olas Altas and head towards the center, walking down the Malecón. Many people choose this place to start their night off right. Along the way, you will find many street parties, food stalls, music, dancing, and singing. This is a very good and very safe way to start the new year! In Puerto Vallarta, New Year’s parties last all night and continue until dawn and the bars extend their hours for the celebration.

El Malecón, the mile-long promenade in the center of town, is another great place to start the party. Here you will find endless artists, vendors, people walking, and a wide variety of nightclubs that ring in the new year with elaborate celebrations and lots of fun.

So why not escape the cold and start the new year in paradise? With all the unlimited activity options that are available, we assure you that you will find something for you and all your companions. See you soon to receive the New Year in Puerto Vallarta!
