Ministry of Defense reveals Puerto Vallarta under control of cartel responsible for kidnapping Mexican Army Colonel

The army reported last Friday, December 16, that the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG) kidnapped a colonel who commanded a unit in the border city of Nuevo Laredo, in Tamaulipas.

The Brigadier General, Diploma of the General Staff, and commander of the 15th Military Zone, Crisóforo Martínez Parra, specified that the kidnapped colonel was on vacation in a cabin in the municipality of Tapalpa, Jalisco when members of the CJNG kidnapped him after allegedly setting up a false traffic incident.

Intelligence reports from the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena) revealed that Tapalpa, Puerto Vallarta, and Mazamitla —along with other tourist destinations in Jalisco— are under the control of the CJNG, Jalisco Cartel, led by Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, “El Mencho”.

In Tapalpa, the CJNG used a tourist complex to launder money from drug trafficking. The business was managed by Jessica Johanna Oseguera Cervantes, alias “La Negra”, identified as the daughter of the CJNG leader.

The tourist company includes five cabins previously registered as “Las Flores Cabañas”.

After the company was linked to the CJNG, “La Negra” requested to change the name of the vacation complex in 2012 to “Cabañas La Loma.”

It was in this same place where “La Negra” supposedly met with her father between 2011 and 2013 to review accounting records for debts to drug traffickers and to confront an individual who may have robbed the Jalisco cartel.

However, Johanna Oseguera would later declare that she had not seen her father since 1997.

In that place, another important member of the CJNG was also captured, on September 5 it was reported that Érick Valencia Salazar, alias El 85, identified as a founding member of the CJNG, was arrested by members of the Army.

“El 85” occupied a prominent place within the criminal group led by El Mencho, and was also considered one of the most bloodthirsty members of the criminal organization.

In the case of Colonel Grimaldo Muñoz, whose whereabouts are unknown to date, various media reported that José Grimaldo stopped on the highway because two vehicles pretended to be involved in a traffic accident and thus forced Isidro Grimaldo to get out of his car, which is when the cartel kidnapped the Army Colonel.

“In a cowardly act, he was subjected to violence by a group of CJNG criminals, led by the regional chief of Tapalpa, Jalisco, who goes by the alias “CR” and whose identity, places he frequents, and known area of influence”, specified the Sedena.

The CR is the alias with which a man named Juan Carlos Pizano Ornelas, the alleged head of the CJNG plaza in the area, is identified. He currently has an arrest warrant and is considered one of the most violent men under the instructions of the CJNG leader.

Intelligence reports from the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena) revealed that Tapalpa, Puerto Vallarta, and Mazamitla —along with other tourist destinations in Jalisco— are under . . .
