The University of Guadalajara is investigating the recent cases of alleged sexual abuse in Puerto Vallarta, the disappearance of a student, and the suicide of a person in the facilities of the University Center for Health Sciences who apparently killed a woman minutes before.
In the first case, the General Rector of the UdeG, Ricardo Villanueva Lomelí, reported that it will be legally analyzed in the Responsibilities Commission, the protocol procedures are followed in case of sexual abuse by the Equality Unit, in addition to the fact that the student receives counseling by the Student University Federation.
However, the Rector General described this case as serious with divided opinions among the staff of the Centro Universitario de la Costa and revictimizing the young student.
“It has divided the community, it has divided teachers who have sided with the teacher accused of abuse, and that again victimizes the student, it is a problem that I must recognize, it is already a problem that we have in a community where there is a conflict between parties and it is a serious case that we have to attend to under the logic of the culture of peace”.
On the subject of the person who took his own life at the University Health Center facilities after apparently committing femicide, Villanueva Lomelí denied that he is a member of the University.
“He is not a member of the university community, I understand that the strongest line of investigation is a guy who committed femicide in the Santa Tere area until now the most likely hypothesis would be because the motorcycle on which he fled was found near the surroundings of the CUCS, the characteristics are very similar to these people, up to now our hypothesis is that they are a character completely unrelated to the university community, who committed a crime of femicide and went to hide, entered the university center and committed suicide inside the facilities”.
Finally, he mentioned that the UdeG will remain without comment on the missing 17-year-old student who disappeared a few weeks ago, at the request of the family.
“The family has asked us not to get involved in the matter, that they want to attend directly to the matter and the University only intervenes when the family asks us for help,” he concluded.
