Puerto Vallarta (PVDN) – A motorcyclist suffered the amputation of one of his legs in an accident that occurred on the Vallarta Adventure highway km 56 towards Puerto Vallarta.
In videos circulating on social networks, a man can be seen in the bed of a truck, complaining of pain.
Other men try to contain the bleeding by pressing clothes on the wound, while another subject narrates the scene.
Another subject takes the amputated leg of the foot with the intention of putting it on the box, but a foreign woman can be heard in the video telling them not to take the amputated leg.
The woman, who apparently is a foreigner because of her accent, helps a second injured person who is lying on the edge of the road.
In another video, presumably recorded later, it is claimed that the accident could have been caused by a collision with cows.
The motorcycles were abandoned, one of them had a Colima plate, and the other one was from Jalisco with the SSDJ6 series.
Road traffic injuries are a major public health problem in Mexico, with an estimated 16.6 deaths per 100,000 population in 2018. Motorcycles are a popular mode of transportation in Mexico, but they are also involved in a disproportionate number of road traffic crashes and fatalities.
In 2019, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) reported that there were a total of 4,548 motorcycle accidents in Mexico, resulting in 4,899 injuries and 1,365 deaths. The states with the highest number of motorcycle accidents were Mexico City, Jalisco, and Nuevo León.
In addition, a study published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health in 2019 found that motorcycle riders in Mexico were more likely to be involved in crashes and suffer serious injuries compared to other road users. The study cited factors such as poor road infrastructure, inadequate safety regulations, and the use of motorcycles for commercial purposes as contributing to the high rates of motorcycle accidents in Mexico.
It is important to note that statistics on motorcycle accidents may vary depending on the source, the time period analyzed, and the specific criteria used to define and classify accidents.
