In an effort to deter crime and uphold the safety of its residents and visitors, the Directorate of Citizen Security and Municipal Roads of Puerto Vallarta has amplified its preventive police surveillance across the city. These increased security measures encompass shopping centers, squares, parking lots, and streets, aiming to decrease the incidence of crimes such as robbery.

Commissioner Rigoberto Flores Parra detailed the extensive efforts of the infantry elements, who are persistently patrolling the city to thwart potential criminal activities. The objective is not merely to prevent thefts involving vehicles, people, and businesses, but also to safeguard the community’s patrimony.

Aside from bolstering surveillance in public spaces, the neighborhoods of the municipality are not being overlooked. The increased police presence aims to inhibit any potential criminal acts that might jeopardize the patrimony of Vallarta.

Citizens and tourists alike are being called upon to play their part in maintaining the safety of the community. Recommendations include avoiding carrying large sums of cash, not accepting assistance from strangers at ATMs, and parking in well-lit areas without leaving valuables or purchases in plain sight.

Further advice pertains to securing homes by ensuring doors and windows are well-locked when unoccupied, and promptly reporting any suspicious activity or individuals to 9-1-1. Authorities promise to promptly address any reports, assuring the community that their safety concerns are paramount.

These efforts underscore the commitment of the Directorate of Citizen Security and Municipal Roads of Puerto Vallarta to maintain a safe and secure environment for all. This initiative aligns with the directive of Municipal President Luis Alberto Michel, who remains devoted to preserving the peace and tranquility of the city’s residents and visitors.

Puerto Vallarta Plumbets on the Saftey Index

Puerto Vallarta, long renowned as one of Mexico’s safest urban havens, has seen a stark decrease in its perception of security, according to the latest results from the National Survey of Urban Public Security (ENSU). This decline has bumped the popular tourist city from the top-ten list of Mexico’s safest cities, down to the 13th position.

The ENSU survey, conducted between May 26 and June 15, 2023, revealed a troubling trend for the city. As of June 2023, 30.7% of Puerto Vallarta’s inhabitants consider their city unsafe, a significant increase from the 26.5% recorded in March of the same year. This is despite the city’s significant recovery after a peak insecurity perception of 41% in June 2020.

Puerto Vallarta has seen a decline in safety perception among residents under the current first-term mayor who took office while Puerto Vallarta ranked #3 nationwide.
