PUERTO VALLARTA (PVDN) – The seaside town of Puerto Vallarta is buzzing with anticipation as preparations for the Day of the Dead celebrations are underway. A highlight of the festivities will be the display of the World’s Largest Catrina, a distinction the town proudly claimed last year, capturing global attention.
“The Catrina that garnered us the Guinness record will be showcased once again. The only change this year is her new, beautiful dress,” shared Christian Preciado Cázares, the director of municipal tourism. With the record already in their possession, the focus now shifts to thematically adorning the town’s boardwalk for the occasion.
As part of the celebrations, Puerto Vallarta has organized various events. “There will be contests and altars for the dead throughout the town, and a parade featuring over 15 already-registered companies. The parade will commence at the pantheon of 5 de Diciembre, traverse San Salvador street, pass by the Ley store, and conclude at Lázaro Cárdenas,” Cázares described.
Cázares went on to extend an invitation to all: “We invite companies, schools, and everyone to partake, because death is an integral facet of our culture.”
But the festivities don’t end there. In keeping with tradition, a bullfight will also be staged featuring charros, Mexican horsemen, dressed aptly for the occasion.
“We host a ‘maleconeada charra’ annually. The charros, dressed in theme, will take to the streets on November 30. While Halloween influences are prevalent, we emphasize celebrating our deep-rooted traditions. The maleconeada is a testament to that, showcasing charros and their horses, reflecting our culture,” Cázares elaborated.
In addition to the record-holding Catrina, other monumental catrinas are set to be displayed. Cázares indicated that over 25 hotels have already signed up to uphold this cherished tradition.
With Puerto Vallarta holding the record for the world’s largest Catrina, the Day of the Dead celebrations this year are poised to be an unparalleled blend of tradition and spectacle.
