PUERTO VALLARTA (PVDN) – The tranquil coast city of Puerto Vallarta has recently been rattled by a disturbing trend. Within a mere 24-hour span, three separate armed robberies have been executed by individuals on motorcycles, targeting various locations around the city.
These criminals, seemingly with a penchant for high-profile thefts, have already amassed loot totaling 520,000 pesos, leaving residents and businesses on high alert. Despite the surge in these audacious crimes, the municipal Police have yet to apprehend those responsible.
The most recent of these incidents occurred on Wednesday afternoon when an employee of a notary office in the La Vena neighborhood became their target. The unsuspecting employee, after leaving Plaza Caracol, was trailed by the criminals to the intersection of Calle Juan Escutia and Paseo de la Vena. Here, the robbers menacingly brandished a firearm, effectively intimidating the employee into surrendering 180,000 pesos.
Disturbingly, statistics indicate that only 1 out of every 100 robberies sees justice served in Vallarta, a fact that only amplifies residents’ concerns.
Thursday’s chain of events continued to prove the robbers’ modus operandi, as two individuals on a motorcycle closely followed a female employee of an accounting office from the Banorte bank. The culprits then cornered her in the parking lot of a home appliance store. They successfully robbed her of a purple bag containing 120,000 pesos using scare tactics.
In their hasty escape on their motorcycle, this triggered an immediate police response. The ensuing chase led to a collision involving a Municipal Police patrol. Tragically, before the city could recover from this incident, another robbery occurred, this time at a bank in Plaza Peninsula, with the perpetrators making away with a staggering 220,000 pesos.
The authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities, especially concerning motorcycle-bound individuals. The series of events has left the community on edge, hoping for a swift resolution and peace to return to their beloved city.
