PUERTO VALLARTA (PVDN) – Puerto Vallarta, a celebrated tourist destination, warmly welcomed the Disney Magic cruise ship this Monday. This marked a significant reactivation of the international tourist segment following the disruptions caused by Hurricane “Lidia” last week. The cruise ship’s arrival was highlighted as a milestone by Christian Preciado Cázares, the director of Tourism and Economic Development in Puerto Vallarta.
According to data from the Administration of the National Port System (ASIPONA) of Puerto Vallarta, the Disney Magic arrived with 1,945 passengers and 1,004 crew members. The cruise is part of a 14-day tour that originated in Miami, Florida and is set to conclude in San Diego, California.
Cázares emphasized that Puerto Vallarta is fully operational and is currently in preparation for what is anticipated to be a robust high tourist season. “The tourist destination is on its feet and is preparing for the strong part of the high tourist season,” Cázares stated.
Mayor Luis Alberto Michel Rodríguez also spoke on the city’s tourism resilience. He underscored that Puerto Vallarta remains a preferred tourist destination for national and international visitors. In support of this, Mayor Rodríguez cited statistics from the Pacific Airport Group, revealing that Puerto Vallarta International Airport welcomed more than 6.2 million passengers in 2022. The airport serves 52 destinations—13 national and 39 international—through 24 different airlines.
“The figures clearly indicate the level of confidence that travelers have in Puerto Vallarta as a prime tourist destination,” said Mayor Rodríguez.
The arrival of the Disney Magic cruise ship and the forthcoming high tourist season are positive indicators for Puerto Vallarta’s tourism sector, particularly following the challenges posed by Hurricane “Lidia,” which led to the cancellation of two cruises last week. The city’s capacity to bounce back and attract many tourists underlines its resilience and continued appeal in national and international markets.
With a focus on offering warmth and hospitality, Puerto Vallarta remains optimistic about its tourism prospects, especially as it prepares for the forthcoming high tourist season, expected to be stronger than ever.
