Puerto Vallarta Among Top International Destinations for U.S. Thanksgiving Travelers

PUERTO VALLARTA – As the United States prepares for its annual Thanksgiving holiday, celebrated every fourth Thursday of November—falling on the 23rd this year—a new study by Allianz Partners has illuminated the preferred travel destinations for Americans during this time. Puerto Vallarta joins Cancun and Los Cabos as one of the three leading international locations where U.S. citizens are most likely to spend their holiday.

Allianz Partners’ annual Top 10 Thanksgiving Destination Index utilized data from more than 800,000 insured travel itineraries to compile its findings. The study reveals that New York City and Cancun remain prime vacation spots nationally and internationally, respectively. Notably, New York City has maintained its status as America’s top domestic destination for the past three years.

Besides New York City, other popular domestic destinations, in descending order, include Seattle, Orlando, Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Washington, DC, and Detroit.

When it comes to international travel during the Thanksgiving period, the study found a discernible preference for warm-weather locales. The top three international destinations are all in Mexico: Cancun, Los Cabos, and Puerto Vallarta. Apart from London and Paris, which hold the fourth and ninth spots respectively, all remaining destinations are situated in Mexico or the Caribbean. Following the top three, the list consists of London, Montego Bay, Punta Cana, Nassau, Oranjestad, Paris, and Providenciales.

Puerto Vallarta’s Growing Appeal

According to the Tourism Trust, the results from Allianz Partners’ study serve as another essential barometer of Puerto Vallarta’s growing reputation and brand resonance in the United States. The trust elaborated: “Punta Cana expects to close the year with 10 million visitors to its airport, while Puerto Vallarta estimates reaching 6 million, in addition to its land demand. This data illustrates the significant impact our destination has on both the national and international tourist map.”

The findings indicate that Puerto Vallarta is steadily positioning itself as a strong competitor, not just nationally against destinations like Cancun and Los Cabos, but also on an international scale.

For travelers, stakeholders, and residents alike, the Allianz Partners’ study not only affirms the ongoing efforts in promoting Puerto Vallarta but also offers valuable insights into the evolving dynamics of travel preferences among Americans during the Thanksgiving holiday.
