Three Tons of Humanitarian Aid Donated by the People of Puerto Vallarta on its Way to Hurricane Otis Victims

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – In an outstanding display of community solidarity, the Puerto Vallarta Red Cross has amassed over three tons of food and personal hygiene items in just four days. This collection is part of a significant relief effort aimed at supporting the victims of the catastrophic Hurricane Otis that ravaged areas in Guerrero.

This swift action has enabled the first shipment of more than three thousand kilograms of essential supplies to be coordinated and ready for dispatch to the hurricane-stricken region of Acapulco. The local delegation has been instrumental in facilitating the delivery, aligning with the efforts of the state delegation in Guadalajara, which had sent an initial trailer last Friday.

The transportation of these crucial supplies has been generously offered by the Sánchez Barcelata company, which will provide a van suited to the consignment’s needs at no charge, ensuring that the aid reaches those in dire need promptly and efficiently.

Joaquín Molina Bauza, the President of the Board of Trustees of the Red Cross in Puerto Vallarta, shed light on the overwhelming support received. Notably, significant contributions came from the hospitality sector, with hotels such as the Sheraton, Friendly, Hiltons in Punta Mita, Westin, and Marriott W Punta Mita standing out for their generous donations. The hotel employees themselves have also played a pivotal role in gathering resources.

Moreover, the Ladies Volunteers of the Red Cross, led by Yolanda Jauregui, have been pivotal in bringing in supplies, illustrating the powerful impact of volunteer service.

While the current focus is on the devastation left by Hurricane Otis, Molina Bauza reminds us that the needs extend beyond the immediate crisis. Almost a month after Hurricane Lidia’s landfall, communities in Cabo Corrientes and Tomatlán remain isolated and in urgent need of support. The Red Cross continues to coordinate aid for these regions as well.

Given the extensive damage inflicted by Hurricane Otis across Acapulco and other municipalities, the call for further assistance has been emphasized. The losses incurred by many are substantial, and the need for aid remains critical. The Red Cross in Puerto Vallarta continues to welcome donations of food, personal hygiene items, and financial contributions to bolster their relief efforts.

This campaign not only showcases the generous spirit of Puerto Vallarta and its visitors but also underscores the ongoing need for assistance in the wake of natural disasters. The window for aid remains open, and the Red Cross’s commitment to the affected communities endures as they work to rebuild and recover from these tragic events.
