Puerto Vallarta (PVDN) – The tranquil town of Mismaloya, located just south of Puerto Vallarta, faces uncertainty and concern as a looming eviction order threatens to displace approximately 800 residents. The eviction, impacting homes, a school, and several restaurants near Federal Highway 200, will be enforced on Tuesday, November 21.
This concerning development was confirmed by Bruno Blancas Mercado, the Federal Representative for the V District headquartered in Puerto Vallarta. Mercado has been actively involved in this matter for several months. Recently, he hosted a delegation of Mismaloya residents in Mexico City, conducting working sessions in Congress and facilitating meetings with the Ministry of the Interior.
According to Mercado, the eviction order targets a 10-hectare area in Boca de Tomatlán and Mismaloya. This land, inhabited since 1939, includes not only residential homes but also educational institutions. The order, issued by a district judge to an Agrarian Court magistrate, is set to be executed at 8:00 AM on Tuesday.
Mercado expressed concern that the use of public force in the eviction could spark a severe social issue. He recalled the efforts made last month when residents sought his help, leading to an “Open Parliament” exercise in the nation’s capital. During this event, meetings with authorities like the Agrarian Attorney’s Office were held to discuss potential resolutions to the conflict.
While the residents have several options for defending their land rights, Mercado stated that the specifics of these strategies are under the residents’ purview and are integral to their legal defense. He emphasized the importance of the Open Parliament initiative, noting that it allowed for a deeper engagement with the residents’ concerns.
Mercado remains hopeful that the conflict can be averted this Tuesday. However, he has pledged to do everything in his power to be present in Mismaloya, advocating for the well-being and rights of the residents facing this daunting challenge.
