As the year draws to a close, the city anticipates reaching full occupancy, utilizing all 22,800 available rooms, including those on the Airbnb platform and condominiums. These statistics are indicative of the city’s immense popularity among tourists, especially during the holiday season.
Nolasco stated, “Now we do fulfill DataTur, that we were going to be the destination with the highest average occupancy, 78% of the two official vacation weeks. Already this past weekend, we reached 90%. Let’s remember that Christmas is a more family-oriented date, and now the great expectation is to achieve 100% occupancy, as more people are seeking to celebrate the end of the year on our beautiful beaches, basking in the last rays of sun and embracing the good vibes. We hope for a total closure this weekend.”
According to the DataTur Hotel Monitoring Program, which tracks weekly occupancy results in 70 destinations and tourist corridors internationally, the predictions for Puerto Vallarta indicated a 78% occupancy rate for the two holiday weeks, with peak numbers expected around Christmas and New Year’s. The city eagerly awaits the arrival of a significant number of visitors from Friday, December 29th, to Tuesday, January 2nd, 2024.
Additionally, Puerto Vallarta continues to rank among the top 10 destinations on Airbnb for New Year’s celebrations. Airbnb offers approximately 7,800 units in the city, ranging from one to ten rooms, providing diverse and comfortable accommodation options for travelers. Nolasco emphasized the significance of Airbnb’s contribution, stating, “Airbnb has positioned our city in the top 10 for several years now. It represents an important contribution of 3% for the destination. To maintain this high ranking, we must aim for an occupancy rate of around 85% to 90% to ensure a successful year-end closing.”
While these occupancy figures are undoubtedly a testament to Puerto Vallarta’s allure as a vacation destination, Nolasco also raised important concerns about the strain on essential services. He highlighted that during these vacations, the city’s population triples due to the influx of tourists, not only in hotels and condominiums but also in family homes and Airbnb accommodations. This surge in population places increased demand on resources such as drinking water and leads to road congestion in certain areas.
