Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Despite being regarded as the second safest city in the country based on the opinion of citizens, concerns have arisen over the increasing incidence of robberies in the picturesque coastal city. Vallarta Commissioner Rigoberto Flores Parra has acknowledged the presence of property crimes and has outlined the efforts being made to bolster security in the affected areas.
“Indeed, yes we have there, the issue of property crimes does not cease to exist there, for which we are working to reinforce security in the areas that we have identified or where the events have been reported to us,” stated Flores Parra, the individual responsible for security in this popular tourist destination.
To address the surge in robberies, Flores Parra revealed that regular meetings are held to pinpoint areas of concern within the city. “We have a weekly meeting to locate the areas with the most reports or red zones that we name, we reinforce it depending on whether the situation is vehicle theft, motorcycle theft, personal robbery, business or home robbery, it depends on the modality, it is in accordance We act and take the relevant strategies there,” he explained.
One of the hotspots for such criminal activities is the Pitillal area, as highlighted by the Vallarta commissioner. “It is more common where there is more influx, there is more housing, for example, the Pitillal delegation, which is a very large delegation, there is a lot of influx, there is a lot of housing area, it is where we mostly have records of that type of matter,” he pointed out.
According to data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, the period from 2022 to 2023 witnessed a 9.4 percent increase in reported robberies in Puerto Vallarta, rising from 1,277 incidents to 1,395 incidents. Authorities remain vigilant in their efforts to address this concerning trend and enhance the safety of residents and visitors in Puerto Vallarta.
