A total of 130 breathalyzer tests were administered, resulting in 35 positive results, predominantly among men (32 positive tests) compared to women (3 positive tests). The operation indicates a continued effort to reduce drunk driving incidents, following January’s 395 tests, where 86 resulted positive.
In detail, the initiative also reported 85 negative tests, 79 from men and 6 from women. Authorities issued 21 citations for alcoholic breath, contributing to a total of 38 citations for various violations. Despite the lower numbers compared to January, the program underscores a steady commitment to traffic safety.
The enforcement also involved implementing random checkpoints across the municipality, leading to 98 citations for various infractions last week. These included 15 for tinted windshields, sanctions against 77 motorcyclists for driving without lights, and 31 for riding without helmets. In total, 40 motorcycles were detained for infractions such as absence of license plates, no helmets, and lights off, underscoring a tight grip on road regulations.
The “Saving Lives” operation specifically accounted for 52 tests in its recent phase, with 11 resulting positive, all among men. This operation not only focuses on reducing drunk driving but also ensures adherence to other road safety regulations. For instance, during a checkpoint at the intersection of Francisco Medina Ascencio and Brasilia avenues in the 5 de Diciembre neighborhood, 52 individuals were tested, yielding 16 positive results. Following these, citations were issued and several motorcycles were detained for various infractions.
Reflecting on the broader scope of 2023, the campaign unveiled statistics from the entire year. A notable 1,433 breathalyzer tests were conducted, with 359 positive outcomes. The results further break down into 341 men, 56 women, and five minors, showcasing a significant gender disparity. From the offenders, 259 chose immediate fine payment, while numerous vehicles and motorcycles were detained for various reasons, underscoring the operation’s extensive reach.
