At least four dead after the impact of Tropical Storm Alberto in Northern Mexico

Tropical Storm Alberto has left at least four people dead after passing through the state of Nuevo León, according to local authorities. The storm, which made landfall last Wednesday, has caused severe damage in various areas, including floods and landslides, affecting both urban and rural zones.

State Governor Samuel García confirmed the death toll and expressed solidarity with the affected families during a press conference on Thursday. “We are working tirelessly to support all those affected and to restore normalcy in the impacted areas,” García stated.

Emergency teams have been deployed since the storm began to conduct rescue operations and provide assistance to residents. So far, more than 5,000 people have been evacuated from their homes in high-risk areas, and several temporary shelters have been set up to provide refuge.

The heavy rains brought by the storm have caused several rivers and streams in the region to overflow, complicating rescue efforts and leaving many communities isolated. In Monterrey, the state capital, several neighborhoods reported flooding, leading to the suspension of school and work activities.

The National Water Commission (Conagua) reported that although the storm has begun to weaken, rainfall will continue in the coming hours, maintaining alerts in several municipalities. “It is crucial for the population to follow the authorities’ instructions and remain in safe places,” Conagua said in a statement.

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) forecasted that the rains could extend to other northeastern states such as Tamaulipas and Coahuila over the weekend. Authorities have urged the public to stay informed about the storm’s development and to take necessary precautions to avoid further tragedies.

Civil Protection brigades, the Army, and the National Guard continue working in the affected areas to provide humanitarian aid, clear roads, and restore basic services. Additionally, extra resources have been mobilized from the Federal Government to support emergency efforts in Nuevo León.

Tropical Storm Alberto has left a trail of destruction in its wake, and authorities are racing against time to mitigate the damage and prevent further loss of life. The situation remains critical, and recovery efforts are expected to continue in the coming days.
