Puerto Vallarta, known for its vibrant tourism and growing expat community, is taking significant steps to bolster public safety across its neighborhoods. The Citizen Security Commission is actively participating in a coordinated security effort through inter-institutional operations involving federal, state, and municipal authorities. These operations are part of an ongoing strategy to reinforce the safety and well-being of both residents and visitors in the coastal city.
As part of these efforts, Mixed Operations Base (BOM) patrols have been deployed, bringing together elements of the Mexican Navy, Army, State Police, and local officers from the Citizen Security Commission. The primary objective of these joint patrols is to target areas with higher crime rates, ensuring that antisocial behavior and criminal activities are swiftly addressed.
Recent Patrols in High-Crime Neighborhoods
In a recent operation, BOM forces patrolled several key neighborhoods, including Centro, Emiliano Zapata, December 5, Lázaro Cárdenas, Valentín Gómez Farias, May 1, Campestre Las Palmas, Niños Héroes, Las Gaviotas, Las Aralias, and Infonavit. These areas have been identified as having higher instances of criminal activity, and the patrols aim to create a visible security presence that deters potential offenders.
The convoy of security forces worked diligently, inspecting individuals and vehicles, as well as monitoring any unusual activity in the neighborhoods. Their presence is not only meant to address immediate concerns but also to provide long-term assurance to the local community and tourists that their safety is a top priority.
Late-Night Operations Yield Results
During the patrols, officers noticed suspicious behavior around 11:45 p.m. at the intersection of Aquiles Serdán and Constitución streets in the Centro neighborhood. Two men on a motorcycle were stopped for precautionary checks. After a brief inspection, the officers found no wrongdoing, and the individuals were released without incident.
However, a separate incident occurred at 12:27 a.m. at the intersection of Puerto Las Peñas and Sinaloa streets in the 1 de Mayo neighborhood. Officers stopped two motorcycles, both carrying two male passengers, for failing to wear helmets, which is a safety violation. The authorities issued two citations and impounded one motorcycle due to a lack of proper documentation. In total, four men and three motorcycles were inspected, resulting in two citations.
A Commitment to Public Safety
The coordinated security efforts by the Puerto Vallarta Police Department, along with federal and state authorities, reflect the city’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe environment for its growing population and the millions of tourists who visit every year. These patrols are part of a broader initiative aimed at reducing crime rates and enhancing the quality of life for the city’s residents.
As Puerto Vallarta continues to evolve from a laid-back beach destination to a bustling urban hub, it faces new challenges in balancing development with security. This increased focus on public safety is designed to address concerns stemming from the city’s growth, ensuring that Puerto Vallarta remains a welcoming and secure place for everyone.
By proactively conducting inter-institutional patrols in neighborhoods where crime rates are higher, Puerto Vallarta demonstrates its dedication to protecting both the local population and international visitors. These operations not only help to curb criminal behavior but also provide peace of mind to those who call Puerto Vallarta home.

As Puerto Vallarta grapples with the pressures of rapid urbanization and the influx of new residents and businesses, security measures like these are vital in preserving the city’s character and safety. The city’s leaders remain committed to fostering a secure environment while addressing the challenges posed by its ever-growing appeal to foreigners and tourists alike.
