Los Cabos bus crash

Bus crash injures at least eight in Cabo San Lucas

A city bus tipped onto its side after colliding with a private vehicle Sunday morning in Cabo San Lucas, blocking traffic at one of the town’s busiest crossings. First responders reported at least eight injured as they cut through glass and debris to move passengers to safety. By mid-day, local outlets raised the count to as many as 10–11 people hurt, including two in serious condition. Authorities are still working the scene and have not released a cause.

Los Cabos bus crash

A public transport bus overturned after a collision on Sunday, August 31, at the intersection of Ildefonso Green and Pericúes in the Nueva Ejidal area of Cabo San Lucas. Early reports put the number of injured at eight and showed the bus on its side with a shattered windshield and scattered belongings in the aisle.

The crash was reported in the morning and drew a significant emergency response. Photos from the scene show a Mercedes-Benz collective bus on its flank and a car with substantial front-end damage. Traffic in the area was blocked while crews worked.

How the response unfolded

Cabo San Lucas firefighters activated rescue unit 47 and at least one ambulance, with support from municipal traffic police, the Mexican Red Cross, and private ambulances. Their initial tally matched early press accounts of eight injured as they stabilized passengers and cleared the site.

As assessments continued, local media revised the numbers upward. Peninsular Digital reported 10 injured at the same crossroads in Nueva Ejidal. HOY BCS later reported 11 wounded, noting that ten were bus passengers and one was in a private car; six people went to the IMSS hospital and five to the General Hospital in Cabo San Lucas. El Sudcaliforniano (OEM) also reported 11 injuries and stated that two were classified as critical. We are keeping the phrasing “at least eight injured” to reflect the initial official estimates while acknowledging the later counts.

Impact at the scene

Witness images and outlet reports show lane closures and heavy congestion around the intersection as responders worked to free passengers and upright the bus. Drivers were advised to use alternative routes until the scene was cleared. Authorities have not yet released details on the bus line or route involved.

What we know and what we don’t

Officials have not announced a cause. No agency has publicly identified the operator, the exact bus route, or the complete condition of every patient. This story will be updated as authorities release their findings on whether speed, right-of-way violations, mechanical failure, or poor visibility contributed to the crash. Early images don’t resolve those questions, and investigators are still at work.

Why this matters for commuters in Cabo San Lucas

The Ildefonso Green–Pericúes junction sits in a busy urban corridor of Cabo San Lucas. A crash of this scale at that location can ripple through morning movements to jobs, schools, and the airport connection. Sunday’s event underscores how a single blockage can snarl a wide area and how quickly first responders must triage and coordinate across agencies when a transit vehicle is involved.
