Cancún’s Father’s Day Runs Come With a Bigger Cause

Cancún’s Father’s Day Runs Come With a Bigger Cause

Cancún’s June running calendar is getting crowded around Father’s Day, but one new race carries a purpose beyond medals and morning sweat. A 5K at Malecón Tajamar will direct registration funds toward dental care for older adults connected to DIF Cancún programs and support a women’s entrepreneurship training effort. The event joins a separate Father’s Day race at Parque Cancún, giving runners two family-oriented dates in the same month.

Cancún adds Father’s Day charity races in June

Cancún will hold two Father’s Day running events in June, including a June 28 charity race at Malecón Tajamar that will raise money for dental care for older adults connected to DIF Cancún programs.

The Malecón Tajamar race is scheduled for Sunday, June 28, at 7:00 a.m. The event will cover five kilometers, with men’s and women’s branches. Registration costs 350 pesos per participant.

Two races are scheduled around Father’s Day

A separate Father’s Day race is scheduled for Sunday, June 21, at Parque Cancún. The event listing on AsDeporte shows children’s races starting at 6:30 a.m. and adults at 6:45 a.m. Distances include 400 meters, 800 meters, 2.5K, 5K, and 10K. Registration prices start at 250 pesos.

The following Sunday, the Malecón Tajamar charity race will add a second Father’s Day-themed event. Organizers have capped participation at 350 runners, with expected proceeds exceeding 100,000 pesos, according to Royer Isaí Itzá, director general of the Consejo Coordinador de Mujeres Empresarias Quintana Roo.

Organizers said the registration income will support the “Nunca Dejes de Sonreír” program by Voz Dental. The program will provide older adults with clinical evaluations, dental cleanings, extractions, and dental prostheses.

Registration details and beneficiaries

For the June 28 race, Heraldo de México Quintana Roo reported that the 350-peso fee includes a shirt, race number, and medal. The same report said the event will include a 5K and a 200-meter children’s distance.

Part of the proceeds will also go to Fortaleza, a CCME program focused on training women entrepreneurs. Fortaleza is in its eighth generation and has trained more than 300 women in Quintana Roo. Its instruction includes basic accounting, marketing, tax regime guidance, and business controls.

DIF Cancún connection

The older adults referenced by organizers are connected to DIF Cancún programs. The municipal government has previously identified the Club de la Esperanza, the Nohoch Nah day facility, and Casa Transitoria “Grandes Corazones” among the local services used by older adults in Benito Juárez.

The June 28 presentation included representatives from CCME Quintana Roo, Voz Dental, the Benito Juárez sports office, and the Casa Transitoria “Grandes Corazones” area.

Malecón Tajamar has also been used for public sports programming in Cancún. Vallarta Daily previously covered Cancún’s HYROX event at Malecón Tajamar, part of local efforts to host fitness and sports events outside the hotel zone.

The Parque Cancún race is scheduled for June 21. The Malecón Tajamar charity race takes place on June 28, with registration funds supporting dental services and women’s entrepreneurship training.
