Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, October 16, 2026 – Puerto Vallarta para-athletes won six gold medals and three silvers at the 2026 Paralimpiada Nacional, which ended October 10 in Jalisco.
The nine track-and-field medals contributed to Jalisco’s 21st consecutive overall championship. The federal sports commission’s closing report recorded 494 medals for the state, including 269 golds, 144 silvers and 81 bronzes. Nuevo León finished second and the State of Mexico third.
Who are the Vallarta athletes behind that statewide result?
The local results published identify five medalists from the group coached by Alan Magaña Solís through Puerto Vallarta’s regional adapted-sports program. Regional CODE Jalisco coordinator Amador Hernández Madrigal reported a total of six golds and three silvers from the competition at CODE Revolución in Guadalajara.
Iker Rubio Andrade won gold in both the 800 and 1,500 meters in the younger category for athletes with intellectual disabilities.
Ángel Jasso Aldaba earned three sprint medals in the visual-impairment category: gold in the 100 meters and silver in the 200 and 400 meters.
The individual results include javelin golds for Magali Monserrat Olvera in the deaf category and Darién Córdova González in the wheelchair category. Juan Jiménez Varillas won gold in the deaf 4×100-meter relay.
Local accounts contain inconsistent wording about Rubio’s additional relay medal, leaving its color and precise event details unconfirmed.
For athletes training in Vallarta, reaching that national podium involves first earning a place on the Jalisco team. A July report described a delegation of 10 local athletes heading to Guadalajara to compete for selection. That group included experienced competitors alongside athletes entering the state stage for the first time.
The national competition brought together more than 2,900 athletes across 11 sports, according to CONADE. Vallarta’s nine medals represent its reported para-athletics contribution, with athletes competing in different disability categories and events.
The city has also produced international results this year. Vallarta Daily previously covered Francisca Pelayo and Antonio Lamas’s medals at the Down Syndrome World Championships in Bulgaria, where they represented Mexico in a separate competition.
For Rubio, the national results show a specific step forward. In last year’s Paralimpiada results from Aguascalientes, he earned silver in the 1,500 meters under the same coach. This year, he returned with gold in that distance and another in the 800 meters.
