Cancún’s Hotel Zone has a new fenced dog park tucked into the bike path corridor at kilometer 1 of Boulevard Kukulcán. The small public-space addition comes with training equipment, waste bins, and posted rules, but the larger test will be how the site is used and maintained in one of the city’s busiest tourist corridors. The opening also fits into a wider municipal push around animal welfare, public cleanliness, and shared space.
Cancún opens new dog park on Hotel Zone bike path
Cancún has opened a 400-square-meter dog park at kilometer 1 of Bulevar Kukulcán’s Hotel Zone bike path. The fenced area adds a pet space to a corridor better known for cyclists, runners, and traffic entering the tourist strip.
The new dog park has agility-style gear, including seesaws and jump hoops. It also has training areas, pet waste containers, and signs that tell users to clean up after their animals, according to a published description of the new space at kilometer 1 of the ciclopista. The same account says the site was built on an inactive stretch beside the bike-and-jogging path.
A small park in a busy corridor
The park is small, but the location gives it unusual exposure. Kilometer 1 sits near the entrance to the Hotel Zone. The bike path there shares the corridor with jogging areas, bus stops, and steady road traffic.
The opening follows wider mobility changes tied to the Nichupté Bridge. That project recently added a new route into Bulevar Kukulcán and brought fresh attention to bike-lane guidance and Hotel Zone circulation.
That gives the park a ready stream of users. It also gives it a basic public-space test. A fenced area only works if owners use the bins, follow posted rules, and keep dogs under control near people moving through the corridor.
Cancún has been adding animal-welfare infrastructure
The city has been building a more formal animal-welfare system. In 2024, the municipal government said it had created a domestic pet registry, opened the Sombra dog park in Supermanzana 44 in 2023, and acquired a mobile canine and feline clinic.
Municipal pages also list the animal-welfare office on Avenida Nichupté in Supermanzana 99. The office keeps weekday and Saturday hours. The city also runs an online pet registry.
Earlier official remarks show how city officials have framed dog parks. During the 2022 preparations for Cancún’s first dog park, then-mayor Mara Lezama said, “Our pets will have a space especially for them.” She added that pets are part of daily life and should have a dedicated space.
That idea has moved from a neighborhood park to a more exposed setting. The Hotel Zone location will test whether pet infrastructure can sit cleanly alongside a bike-and-jogging corridor without adding another public-space conflict.
What is still unclear
The published description of the new park did not give operating hours, water access, lighting details, or the agency responsible for daily maintenance. It also did not say whether municipal animal-welfare staff will supervise the space. Enforcement may fall to existing public-space crews.
Those gaps are not minor on Bulevar Kukulcán. Small amenities can become larger complaints when trash, broken equipment, or off-leash dogs spill into shared corridors.
The new site gives dog owners a fenced place to stop near the start of the Hotel Zone. Its value will be measured less by the opening than by whether the equipment, bins, and signs are still doing their job after the first weeks of use.
