Construction of Specialty Hospital in Puerto Vallarta Slated for 2026, Announces Jalisco Health Secretary

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Puerto Vallarta is set to see the construction of a new specialty hospital beginning in 2026, according to Héctor Raúl Pérez Gómez, Secretary of Health for the state of Jalisco. The ambitious project aims to provide the coastal region with its first top-tier medical facility, featuring up to 300 beds and state-of-the-art healthcare services.

Pérez Gómez emphasized the extensive resources required for the construction, equipment, and operation of the hospital. “It will be a specialty hospital. I want to make it clear that construction would begin in 2026 because this requires very strong resources, not only for the construction of the hospital but also for its equipment and operation,” he stated.

The announcement comes as Puerto Vallarta continues to face significant challenges in providing advanced medical services. The new hospital is expected to fill a critical healthcare gap, particularly in offering intensive care and surgical facilities.

“Puerto Vallarta and the entire region require a very good intensive care unit and operating rooms, and that represents a great investment challenge. We want to have top-notch facilities,” Pérez Gómez noted.

The proposed hospital will accommodate between 250 and 300 beds, serving a range of medical specialties. The total investment for the project is projected to be approximately 400 million pesos.

In addition to building the new specialty hospital, the existing Regional Hospital in Puerto Vallarta will undergo a transformation to become a dedicated Maternity Hospital. This conversion is expected to alleviate some of the burden on the healthcare system by focusing on maternal and neonatal care.

Currently, Puerto Vallarta and the surrounding region lack a first-class hospital facility. Patients requiring specialized care are often transferred by air to Guadalajara, the state capital, which significantly delays critical treatments and increases costs for families.

The announcement has generated anticipation among residents and healthcare professionals who have long called for improved medical infrastructure in the region. The establishment of a specialty hospital is viewed as a vital step in enhancing the quality of life and healthcare services in Puerto Vallarta.
