Coronavirus in Mexico; August 9, 2021 Report

This Monday, August 9, the Ministry of Health ( SSa ) released the daily statistics on the coronavirus epidemic in Mexico. Through the daily technical statement, it reported that in the last 24 hours there were 270 deaths and 6,513 new cases of COVID-19 in the country. Sundays and Mondays are typically lower due to underreporting on weekends by health centers.

With these figures, 2,978,330 infections and 244,690 deaths caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus are accumulated nationwide since the beginning of the pandemic.

COVID-19 in Puerto Vallarta

On Monday, August 9, 2021, Puerto Vallarta recorded 139 infections in a single day, and no new deaths. Sundays and Mondays trend lower as many health centers don’t report on weekends. There have been a total of 15,472 infections and 563 deaths in Puerto Vallarta since the beginning of the pandemic. There has been a total of 1,531 reported cases in the past seven days, compared to 1,926 cases in the seven days prior, for a decrease of 20% compared to the previous seven-day period.

Hospital Occupancy in Puerto Vallarta

Two public hospitals in Puerto Vallarta are at 100% occupancy.

Puerto Vallarta Naval Hospital is reporting 39% occupancy of beds for treating COVID-19 patients. The local IMSS Hospital is reporting 100% occupancy in COVID-19 beds, and the Regional Hospital in Puerto Vallarta is reporting 88% occupancy after adding new beds to their COVID-19 unit on Monday. ISSSTE is reporting 100% occupancy. All four public hospitals in Puerto Vallarta are reporting no available ventilators for the care of the most critical patients in Puerto Vallarta.
