Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco — The number of dengue cases in Puerto Vallarta and surrounding municipalities continues to rise, as reported by the Jalisco Health Secretariat’s Eighth Health Region. According to the data from Epidemiological Week 34, which corresponds to the period from August 18 to 24, 2024, the number of confirmed dengue cases in Puerto Vallarta increased from 156 to 185.
The situation is similarly concerning in nearby municipalities. Talpa de Allende saw its dengue cases rise from 16 to 28 during the same period. Tomatlán also experienced a significant increase, with cases going from 4 to 9. Meanwhile, Mascota remains stable with 2 cases, and San Sebastián del Oeste continues to report zero cases.
These figures contribute to the broader statewide dengue situation, where Jalisco currently reports a total of 3,222 cases. This includes an alarming increase of 613 new cases in the last reported week alone. Of these, 391 are classified as Non-Severe Dengue, bringing the total number of such cases to 2,123. Additionally, there are 198 new cases of Dengue with Warning Signs, for a total of 995 cases, and 24 new cases of Severe Dengue, bringing the total to 104. The death toll from dengue in Jalisco remains at one.
The rapid rise in dengue cases in Puerto Vallarta and the surrounding areas underscores the ongoing public health challenge posed by the mosquito-borne virus. Health authorities continue to urge residents and visitors alike to take preventive measures, such as eliminating standing water where mosquitoes breed and using insect repellent.
