Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, August 5, 2026 – Intermittent traffic closures began Wednesday at the intersection of Avenida México and Avenida Las Palmas as SEAPAL started replacing part of the sanitary sewer network in Parque Las Palmas.
The project covers 66 meters of 20-inch sewer pipe along Avenida Las Palmas, between Avenida México and Palma Kentia. SEAPAL said the work should last approximately six weeks, meaning traffic disruptions could continue into September if crews remain on schedule.
The project was detailed in SEAPAL’s official announcement. The agency said that machinery and construction crews will require intermittent closures near the intersection during the replacement.
This is the second phase of sewer work at the same location in less than two weeks. During the first phase, SEAPAL repaired a sanitary siphon at the intersection of Avenida México and Avenida Las Palmas. Crews then filled and compacted the excavation before replacing the concrete, allowing traffic to reopen fully on Sunday, July 26.
The new project replaces a section of the sanitary sewer subcollector, which carries wastewater from the neighborhood. SEAPAL says the work should improve wastewater collection and conveyance and address a long-running infrastructure problem affecting families in the area.
The project is separate from a stormwater drainage expansion. SEAPAL’s announcement does not say the sewer replacement will eliminate street flooding during heavy rain, but it follows a series of recent sewer repairs across the city. Drivers using Avenida Las Palmas should expect changing traffic conditions near Avenida México while crews work. SEAPAL has asked motorists to follow temporary signs, use alternate routes when necessary, and comply with instructions from Municipal Traffic personnel.
