A tropical depression forecast to become a major hurricane offshore later this week puts rain, rough seas and possible transport changes at the top of Puerto Vallarta’s agenda.
Mexico’s National Meteorological Service, or SMN, reported Tropical Depression Seventeen-E about 450 kilometers south of Manzanillo at 6 p.m. Sunday, with sustained winds of 55 kph. Its forecast called for Category 3 strength by Wednesday and placed the center about 220 kilometers southwest of Cabo Corrientes on Friday. Heavier rain is forecast toward Thursday. SMN’s extended forecast puts western and southern Jalisco in a 25–50 millimeter rainfall band Monday, increasing to 75–150 millimeters in parts of western, southern and coastal Jalisco Thursday. These are regional forecasts; actual rainfall will vary by location. Thursday’s coastal wave forecast reaches 3–4 meters. The practical question is how those forecasts translate into local decisions: restrictions on small boats, changes to beach activities, road closures or other Civil Protection instructions. Anyone relying on a water taxi or arranging a south-shore boat trip should reconfirm the service close to departure. The strongest weather signals extend into the working week; this forecast does not establish conditions for the entire weekend.
Wednesday, Sept. 23, is also the week’s only scheduled cruise arrival day. ASIPONA lists Island Princess from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Brilliant Lady from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. If both calls proceed, the overlapping visits could add pickup and excursion traffic around the maritime terminal and Francisco Medina Ascencio. For flights, no weather-related Puerto Vallarta airport closure was verified in GAP’s public announcements reviewed for this edition. That leaves individual flight status and the journey to the terminal as separate checks, especially later in the week. There is a useful update for anyone heading toward San Sebastián del Oeste: state Highway 544 reopened fully on Saturday afternoon after crews removed the overturned gas tanker at kilometer 48. The closure between Soyatán and the El Progreso bridge has ended. New weather conditions could still affect a mountain drive, but the tanker recovery is no longer the reason to postpone it.
Electricity complaints in Getzemani remain unresolved. Neighbors told NoticiasPV they intend to protest at CFE offices after repeated outages, demanding replacement of a transformer they say is inadequate. Their account includes voltage fluctuations and damaged appliances. The report gives no protest date, time, or confirmed CFE repair commitment, so there is no basis yet to plan around a particular demonstration or restoration deadline.
Across the bay in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, water pressure is the immediate service issue to check. OROMAPAS said Sunday that a damaged transformer fuse at the BNayar well had interrupted pumping. The fuse was replaced with CFE assistance, and supply was recovering gradually. Full restoration had no published completion time in the report.
At City Hall, the developing issue is the continuing payroll review and whether officials provide a clearer account of the staffing changes. A municipal statement reported by Contralínea says September’s first payroll period had 110 fewer people than the preceding fortnight, with compensation about 1.8 million pesos lower. The city says adjustments chiefly affect administrative and support positions, with the intention of preserving operational staffing. The next useful announcement would identify the departments affected and explain how service coverage is being maintained. No date for another decision was specified.
