Interim Mayor Martínez Gil Meets with Romantic Zone Association to Address Community Concerns

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – On Thursday, interim mayor Francisco José Martínez Gil engaged in a crucial meeting with the neighborhood association of the Romantic Zone in the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood, Puerto Vallarta. The gathering included key stakeholders such as business owners, hoteliers, restaurateurs, and merchants, aiming to forge collaborative solutions for the challenges faced by this iconic area of the city.

Accompanied by several municipal government directors and officials, Mayor Martínez Gil attentively listened to various concerns and proposals. A prominent issue discussed was the need to bolster security through increased police presence to deter thefts and other criminal activities affecting the district.

In response, Martínez Gil suggested launching an information campaign alongside a joint security strategy with the National Guard and the Navy. This plan involves coordinated operations with the Directorate of Citizen Security, aiming to provide enhanced safety and reassurance to residents and visitors alike.

Additionally, a proposal was made to reactivate the security booth in Lázaro Cárdenas Park, a site currently misused by some individuals for alcohol consumption. Reinforcing surveillance in this area is seen as a critical step in maintaining public order.

The neighborhood association raised concerns about the presence of homeless individuals in the area, expressing their willingness to collaborate with authorities to address this issue. They emphasized the urgent need for a dedicated care center or facility for these individuals.

Furthermore, the proliferation of street vendors encroaching on sidewalks and public spaces emerged as another pressing concern for residents. The association requested the mayor’s intervention to regulate these activities and restore order to the public domain.

Héctor Magaña Pérez, the legal representative of the Zona Romántica neighborhood association, informed the mayor about an upcoming event scheduled for August 9, 10, and 11. The event will feature television stations from the Ibero-American Council visiting Puerto Vallarta, with the Romantic Zone highlighted as a key attraction to promote this tourist destination.

Magaña Pérez outlined plans for a tour of the Los Muertos dock, Lázaro Cárdenas Park, and other activities, seeking the city’s support to present a favorable image to the international media visiting the port.

Describing the meeting with interim mayor Martínez Gil as highly productive, Magaña Pérez praised the mayor’s commitment to addressing and resolving the area’s issues. Both parties agreed to conduct a follow-up tour next week to advance solutions to the highlighted concerns.

Representing the association were Alberto Pérez, president and restaurant owner; Alejandra Cornejo, vice president; María Magdalena Avelar Mondragón, hotel entrepreneur; Jorge Zambrano, restaurateur; and Adriana Rodríguez, businesswoman, among others.

Mayor Martínez Gil was joined by Rigoberto Flores Parra, Director of Citizen Security; Christian Preciado Cázares from Tourism and Economic Development; Jaime Gabriel Pérez Meza from Public Works; Daniel Córdova Aréchiga from Registration and Licensing; Salvador Gutiérrez Palacios from Inspection and Regulations; José Ascención Gil Calleja from Public Services; and Eraclio Galván Mendoza, director of SEAPAL Vallarta, among other officials.
