Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, August 2, 2026 – Health authorities are expanding mosquito-control work in Puerto Vallarta as the rainy season increases the risk of new dengue infections across Jalisco.
The state has recorded 102 confirmed dengue cases through epidemiological week 28, down from 975 cases during the same period last year, according to information from the Jalisco Health Secretariat.
The 102-case figure applies to Jalisco as a whole and is not identified as a Puerto Vallarta-only total in the available health information. Local prevention work has been carried out in 56 neighborhoods in Puerto Vallarta, while statewide operations have reached 3,903 neighborhoods across 76 municipalities.
Health brigades had visited more than 500,000 homes by late July to conduct larval control. Personnel entered 55 percent of those properties. Another 26 percent were closed, 11 percent were unoccupied, and access was refused at eight percent.
The statewide campaign also included mosquito fogging across 76,673 hectares and 1,259 large-scale cleanup operations. Crews collected 7,501 tons of discarded materials that could hold standing water and removed 45,424 tires.
María Isabel Higuera Torres, coordinator of the Department of Vectors and Zoonoses within the Jalisco health system, said moisture and standing water create conditions that allow Aedes aegypti mosquitoes to reproduce more easily.
Prevention teams are continuing their work in Puerto Vallarta during the rainy season. Health personnel are asking households to inspect patios, rooftops and unused containers for water accumulation.
The recommended household measures are to wash, cover, turn over, or discard objects that can become mosquito breeding sites. Residents are also being asked to allow access to properly identified health workers carrying out vector-control inspections.
