Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, July 29, 2026 – National Guard officers sealed one block of Puerto Las Peñas in the 1 de Mayo neighborhood Wednesday, stopping vehicle and pedestrian traffic during a federal security operation whose purpose remained undisclosed.
Reporting from the scene showed federal vehicles and armed officers controlling access to the block. The cordon remained in place several hours, but officers did not explain whether the deployment involved a search, an arrest warrant or another federal action.
People living nearby reported that one person may have been detained. The National Guard and the Federal Attorney General’s Office had not confirmed a detention by Wednesday afternoon. No name, alleged offense, or information about property seized during the operation had been released.
Officers at the scene were reportedly awaiting personnel from the Federal Attorney General’s Office, the agency responsible for investigating federal crimes. That detail did not establish the reason behind the operation, and authorities had not announced any charges or arrests.
Separate reports indicated that metal tire-puncturing devices were scattered along Francisco Medina Ascencio Avenue near Prisciliano Sánchez. At least one private vehicle was reportedly damaged. Authorities had not established whether that incident was connected to the operation in 1 de Mayo.
The two reported locations are separate. Puerto Las Peñas is an interior neighborhood street, while Francisco Medina Ascencio is the city’s principal north-south corridor. No closure of the main avenue was announced, although motorists approaching Prisciliano Sánchez were advised to watch the road surface carefully.
The deployment comes amid a larger federal security presence in the city. Two hundred additional Army personnel arrived in Puerto Vallarta in May as authorities increased patrols amid heightened concern about public safety. No evidence released Wednesday connected that earlier deployment to the operation on Puerto Las Peñas.
Federal authorities had not confirmed whether the neighborhood block had reopened, whether anyone remained in custody or whether additional action was expected.
