Mexico’s Navy has placed its Sixth Naval Region on rainy-season alert in Jalisco and Colima, with more than 3,100 personnel and emergency equipment ready as storms build along the Pacific coast.
The deployment, announced in a public SEMAR update, includes 89 land vehicles, 7 ships, 8 smaller boats, and 8 drones. The force is positioned for rescue, evacuation support, maritime warnings, and response work if heavy rain, high surf, or flooding affects coastal communities, highways, or tourist areas.
The Navy said the operation is part of Plan Marina, its standing emergency plan for disasters and severe weather. For the Puerto Vallarta coast, the alert means more federal backup during the wettest part of the year. It does not, by itself, mean one specific storm is headed directly for the bay.
Navy emergency alert covers Jalisco and Colima
The Sixth Naval Region, which covers the coastal zones of Jalisco and Colima, has intensified monitoring in areas considered vulnerable during the rainy and hurricane seasons. The Navy said port-captaincy weather alerts are also being used to warn the maritime community when conditions turn unsafe.
That part of the operation is especially relevant along the bay and nearby coast, where small craft, fishing cooperatives, and port users can be affected quickly by rough seas, wind shifts, and sudden closures. Storm season is already active
The eastern Pacific hurricane season runs from May 15 to November 30, according to Mexico’s water authority. June usually brings the shift from isolated showers to more regular afternoon and evening storms across this part of the coast.
