Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Oct. 11, 2026 — Puerto Vallarta International Airport will remain closed until 8 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, local time, its operator announced Sunday.
Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico, known as GAP, had previously targeted reopening for 8 a.m. Monday, Oct. 12. The extension adds 24 hours.
GAP said the updated official aeronautical notice, or NOTAM, covers all operations. Reopening remains subject to weather and operational assessments coordinated with aviation authorities.
Monday arrivals and departures remain suspended
Under GAP’s revised notice, no flights can arrive or depart Monday. The extension affects residents expecting visitors and travelers planning to leave Puerto Vallarta.
GAP urged passengers to contact their airlines for flight status and options for changing their itineraries. Its earlier guidance also asked travelers to avoid going to the airport during the closure.
We reported Volaris’ weekend flight cancellations on Friday. The airline had canceled Puerto Vallarta flights for Oct. 10-11 because of Hurricane Simon.
The airport’s revised closure now extends beyond those weekend cancellations, covering all of Monday and the first eight hours of Tuesday.
Airport terminal is not a storm shelter
In its passenger notice, the airport said, “The airport is not a shelter designated by the authorities.”
The notice directs people needing shelter to locations authorized by local authorities and Civil Protection.
Puerto Vallarta’s municipal DIF announced five temporary shelters Friday.
GAP cites Simon’s slow movement
GAP attributed the extension to Hurricane Simon’s slow movement. Its update cited heavier rain forecast for Sunday afternoon and early Monday.
The operator said a duty crew and support brigade remain at the airport to conduct inspections and support storm response.
