Puerto Vallarta Celebrates World Theater Day with a Dynamic Artistic Lineup

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico — The city of Puerto Vallarta is gearing up to mark World Theater Day with an intense artistic agenda spearheaded by the PV Collective of Performing Arts Creators and fully backed by Mayor Luis Munguía González’s administration. This celebration of theatrical art underscores not only a tribute to creative expression but also a demonstration of unity and shared vision among the municipality’s vibrant performing arts community.

On March 27 at 8:00 pm, theater enthusiasts will be treated to the play This Was a King at the Cuale Cultural Center’s auditorium. This free-admission performance, directed by Alberto Fabián Sahagún Orozco, offers a fresh take on William Shakespeare’s King Lear, blending fiction with the director’s personal experiences to create an intimate and emotionally resonant narrative.

The festival continues over the following days with a diverse range of events. Among the highlights are the shows Al Aire Lola!, Chingue a su Madre el Minimo, and Que no se culpe a nadie de mi muerte. Additionally, cultural aficionados can participate in the conference titled “History of Theater in Jalisco” and enjoy the innovative collective production Teatro en Versiones. These events will unfold between March 27 and 29 at prominent venues including Plataforma 322 and El Rey de Oros, reflecting the active collaboration of several independent companies that form the collective.

Juan Pablo Hernández, president of the PV Collective of Performing Arts Creators, expressed his enthusiasm for the event, emphasizing that this marks the collective’s first official activity—a bold step that signals the dawn of a new era in theatrical creation in Vallarta.

Soledad García, the collective’s vice president, highlighted the pressing need to foster sustainable conditions for the growth of the local performing arts scene. “Our objective is to create more spaces for theater and culture, along with promoting short-, medium-, and long-term cultural policies,” she stated. These proposals have garnered strong support from María Laurel Carrillo, councilor and president of the City Council Commission for Culture and Cultural Rights, as well as from Miguel Arturo Meza, deputy director of Economic Promotion and Tourism. Both officials underscored the vital role that culture plays in enhancing the municipality’s tourism appeal and in strengthening Puerto Vallarta’s identity.

Beyond its artistic contributions, theater in Puerto Vallarta is seen as a powerful social catalyst. By fostering cultural exchange and strengthening community bonds, the festival reaffirms the city’s commitment to art as an essential tool for social transformation. With this collaborative effort, Puerto Vallarta cements its reputation as a leading stage destination with national influence.
