Free events planned for Puerto Vallarta anniversary
Puerto Vallarta will mark its 108th anniversary as a municipality and 58th anniversary as a city with free public events from May 29 to 31.
The official program includes cultural activities, live music, civic events, and fireworks. Most of the public program is centered on the Malecón, with other events scheduled at the municipal presidency and Estadio Agustín Flores Contreras.
The anniversary date is May 31. Puerto Vallarta became a municipality on May 31, 1918. It received city status on the same date in 1968.
Program begins with history events
The anniversary program begins Friday, May 29, at the municipal presidency.
An Archivo y Memoria exhibition is scheduled for 8 a.m. in the Patio de Presidencia. A regional council swearing-in is listed for 5 p.m. A conference under the same Archivo y Memoria theme is scheduled for 6 p.m.
The history-focused event is tied to the city’s documentary and municipal memory work. It includes material connected to the history of Las Peñas and Puerto Vallarta.
Malecón events set for Saturday
The Saturday program moves more visibly to the Malecón area.
The Ballet Folklórico Cuauhtémoc is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Los Arcos del Malecón. At 7 p.m., the program includes Orquesta Escuela PV and Ballet Clásico VallArte Estudio.
DJ Jovana Dávalos is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. near the Malecón lighthouse area. The Saturday program keeps the evening focused on dance, music, and public performances.
Main anniversary events are on May 31
The Sunday program begins at 7 a.m. with the Carrera de la Niñez at Estadio Agustín Flores Contreras.
The civic portion begins at 3 p.m. at Los Arcos del Malecón with honors to the flag. A military band with folkloric ballet is scheduled at 3:10 p.m. at the Letras del Malecón.
The Solemn Session is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Los Arcos del Malecón. The site was approved as the alternate official venue for the session marking the double anniversary.
At 5:30 p.m., the program lists an aerobatic show by the Mexican Air Force, Águilas Aztecas, at the Letras del Malecón. Recognition awards are scheduled for 6:30 p.m., followed by the National Anthem at 6:35 p.m.
The anniversary cake cutting is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. at Plaza de Armas. The evening program then shifts to the main stage, with jazz at 7 p.m., Grupo Caché at 8 p.m., and Grupo Farra at 9:30 p.m.
The fireworks countdown is scheduled for 11 p.m. Pyrotechnics are listed for 11:05 p.m., followed by more music and an announced surprise artist at 12:30 a.m.
