Puerto Vallarta Announces Eight New Projects to Increase Water Supply

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – In a bid to improve the city’s water supply amid growing demand, Mayor Luis Ernesto Munguía González has announced the initiation of eight strategic water projects. According to municipal authorities, these initiatives aim to add up to 100 liters per second (l/s) to Vallarta’s current water production, ensuring a more stable supply for residents and businesses.

“I just gave instructions to carry out at least eight strategic projects to ensure we have much more vital water,” said Mayor Munguía González. Among the plans is the re-drilling of existing wells, along with the creation of an additional well in the Ixtapa area. Another key effort focuses on upgrading filter galleries near the Ameca River—an important technology the mayor believes can significantly contribute to this new 100 l/s supply.

The mayor noted that the overall investment for these works amounts to roughly 60 million pesos. “This includes technological equipment, known as turbobordices, which will also be used to take water to fill the radial well,” he explained. Such equipment is expected to optimize the transfer of water and better withstand seasonal challenges.

Municipal sources report that the bidding or assignment processes for each of these projects are about to begin. These administrative steps will determine timelines for construction and implementation. Once completed, the new infrastructure is expected to help Vallarta meet increasing water demands, especially crucial during periods of heightened need.

Local officials emphasize that these enhancements are part of a broader commitment to safeguarding Vallarta’s water resources. With the city continuing to grow, ensuring a reliable water supply remains a top priority for the administration, offering residents greater confidence in the city’s capacity to keep pace with future demands.
