Two violent robberies occurred Sunday night in Puerto Vallarta, apparently committed by the same armed suspects. Authorities have launched a joint investigation.
Puerto Vallarta authorities are investigating two violent armed robberies that took place just minutes apart on Sunday night in different neighborhoods of the city. Early evidence suggests the same individuals may be responsible for both incidents, raising concerns among residents and prompting an intensified police response.
The first incident occurred at a Medicine Pharmacy located at the intersection of La Candelaria and Emiliano Zapata streets in the Barrio Santa María neighborhood. According to the official police report, two men entered the store around nightfall, threatened employees with firearms, and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
While Municipal Police officers were responding to that scene, a second call came through alerting them to another armed robbery—this time at the Oxxo La Montaña convenience store, situated at Venustiano Carranza and Jacarandas streets in the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood. Tourist Police officers arrived shortly after the call and confirmed that two armed men had once again stormed the premises, threatening workers and taking off with roughly 8,000 pesos in cash from the evening’s sales.
Authorities say the rapid succession of the two incidents, combined with matching physical descriptions of the suspects and surveillance footage from both locations, strongly suggest the same individuals carried out both robberies.
“This appears to be a coordinated attack by the same suspects, who moved quickly from one business to another,” said a police source familiar with the investigation. “They were armed, aggressive, and clearly knew what they were doing.”
In response, judicial authorities have launched a joint investigation, opening a shared case file based on the Approved Police Report (Informe Policial Homologado) completed by first responders at both scenes. A special operation was also put into place Sunday night, which included increased patrols in the surrounding neighborhoods and a thorough review of security camera footage from both public and private sources.
Police are now looking into whether these two robberies may be part of a broader crime pattern. “There’s concern that these suspects could be linked to a series of violent robberies that have recently taken place in different areas of Puerto Vallarta,” the police source added. “We’re not ruling out that this could be the work of a criminal cell operating in the region.”
Although no injuries were reported in either case, the incidents have sparked alarm among business owners and residents alike, particularly due to the level of violence and the boldness of the perpetrators.
The Puerto Vallarta Municipal Police Department is urging anyone with relevant information—especially those who may recognize the suspects from surveillance images—to come forward. Residents are also encouraged to remain alert and report suspicious activity through the 911 emergency line.
Local authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring public safety and bringing the perpetrators to justice. As of Monday morning, no arrests had been made, but investigations are ongoing.
