Puerto Vallarta Lands Big Share of Velas 2026 Plan

Puerto Vallarta Lands Big Share of Velas 2026 Plan

Velas Resorts is planning another large round of hotel spending in Mexico for 2026. Puerto Vallarta stands out in the announcement for more than just the dollar figure. The company is putting about $35 million into Casa Velas. It is also using the moment to stress confidence in the city’s tourism market. Riviera Maya, Riviera Nayarit, and Los Cabos are also included. Still, the clearest local signal may be the money headed to Puerto Vallarta and what it says about the city’s place in the company’s strategy.

Puerto Vallarta becomes the local focal point

Velas Resorts says it will put $135 million into upgrades across its Mexican portfolio in 2026. Puerto Vallarta is one of the clearest focal points. The company assigned about $35 million to Casa Velas, its adults-only property in Marina Vallarta. That makes the city a major piece of the plan, even though Riviera Maya received the largest single allocation. The Puerto Vallarta angle matters for another reason. This is not just another stop in the chain. It is where the brand began with the opening of Velas Vallarta in the early 1990s. Today, Casa Velas still fits that local identity. The property sits by the Marina Vallarta golf course. It also gives guests access to Táu Beach Club and some facilities at Velas Vallarta. In practical terms, the announcement puts Puerto Vallarta near the center of a strategy to refresh the guest experience. It also keeps one of the company’s original markets visible.

The investment reads as a confidence signal

The timing gives the Puerto Vallarta angle more weight. Local tourism operators have spent the past few days trying to reinforce confidence in the destination. That followed violence in Jalisco that disrupted travel and hit hotel demand. In that context, a multimillion-dollar commitment to Casa Velas looks bigger than a routine upgrade cycle. It signals that the company still sees Puerto Vallarta as a market worth defending and improving. That matters during a period of short-term pressure. Executives also tied the broader renovation push to attracting more travelers from the United States and Canada, as well as domestic guests. That matters in Puerto Vallarta, where international demand remains central to the local economy and to many local service jobs. For readers who follow the city’s tourism sector, the announcement stands out for a simple reason. An established operator is putting fresh capital into an existing Puerto Vallarta property instead of waiting for calmer conditions.

Other resorts are in the plan, but Vallarta stays central

The rest of the spending plan reaches other major beach destinations. Velas Resorts said it will direct $50 million to Grand Velas Riviera Maya and $40 million to Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit. Another $10 million is set for Grand Velas Los Cabos. Those figures show that the company is making a broad portfolio play, not a one-city bet. Even so, Puerto Vallarta keeps a distinct place in the story. Company materials released around its 35th anniversary already highlighted the newly renovated suites at Velas Vallarta. That reinforced the sense that the group is still refreshing its footprint in the city where it started. The Casa Velas investment fits neatly into that pattern. It also fits the company’s stated goal of attracting foreign travelers. The local takeaway is straightforward. The biggest budget line sits elsewhere. Even so, Puerto Vallarta remains central to the company’s brand history, its message to foreign travelers, and its plans for 2026.
