The GKA Freestyle Kite World Cup Mexico 2026 opened Tuesday in Nuevo Nayarit, bringing international kiteboarders to the Riviera Nayarit coast for a competition scheduled through May 30.
State tourism officials presented the event as part of a sports tourism strategy focused on Bahía de Banderas. The coastal area includes Bucerías, Flamingos, and Nuevo Nayarit, where wind conditions have supported kiteboarding events for years.
Meridiano reported the opening of the Copa Mundial de Kitesurf alongside the Festival de Colores, saying the events were drawing attention to Riviera Nayarit during the final week of May. The outlet cited Nayarit Tourism Secretary Juan Enrique Suárez del Real Tostado, who said the world competition would continue through Saturday.
