Three New Volaris Routes Are Now Flying to Vallarta

Volaris has launched three new nonstop routes to Puerto Vallarta from Aguascalientes, Puebla, and San Luis Potosí, adding domestic seats as the airport heads into the summer travel season.

The Aguascalientes route received a local welcome ceremony on Tuesday, June 9, at Puerto Vallarta International Airport, one week after service began. The arriving flight carried 165 passengers, including Aguascalientes Tourism Secretary Mauricio González López.

The three routes began operating on June 2. Aguascalientes and Puebla have three weekly round-trip flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. San Luis Potosí has four weekly round-trip flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

New routes and schedules

The Aguascalientes flight is scheduled to arrive in Puerto Vallarta around 9:10 a.m. and depart at 9:50 a.m., according to the Aguascalientes state schedule and local airport ceremony details. Puebla flights arrive at 3:04 p.m. and depart at 3:38 p.m. San Luis Potosí flights arrive at 10:53 a.m. and depart at 11:25 a.m.

The airport ceremony was led by Miguel Andrés Hernández Arteaga, Jalisco’s tourism undersecretary, and Juan Pablo Martínez Torres, Puerto Vallarta’s prosperity and economic development manager. Representatives from the airport, aviation, Volaris, and tourism trust also attended.

Omar Gildardo Torres Grajeda, Puerto Vallarta airport administrator, said “connectivity is the motor of our growth,” while describing the routes as a way to reactivate three domestic markets with strong travel flow into the destination.

The flights give Puerto Vallarta more direct access to central Mexico and the Bajío without a connection to Mexico City or Guadalajara. Volaris now offers service to Puerto Vallarta from 12 domestic cities, including Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Tijuana, Toluca, and the three new markets.

Airport expansion and softer traffic

The added service comes as Puerto Vallarta airport tries to rebuild momentum in air travel after a weaker spring. Recent airport traffic data showed a sharp April decline, even as airlines and tourism officials pointed to new routes as part of the recovery picture.

The San Luis Potosí route was part of a 13-route Volaris and OMA expansion announced in February, covering airports across central and northern Mexico. Volaris executive Holger Blankenstein said at the time the plan focused on “accessible and efficient air connectivity” between key regions.

At PVR, officials also tied the new flights to the airport’s larger construction cycle. GAP has been carrying out a multibillion-peso new terminal project in Puerto Vallarta, with local officials citing an investment of more than 9 billion pesos and an expected completion in 2027.

Travelers using the new routes should still confirm times directly with Volaris before heading to the airport. Summer storms, runway traffic, and airline schedule adjustments can change an otherwise simple morning or afternoon flight.
