Puerto Vallarta’s Pride week will bring more than events, parades, and crowds into the city center. It will also bring several planned road closures that could affect drivers, buses, taxis, and anyone moving through Centro or the Zona Romántica. Officials say the restrictions begin Sunday, May 17, and continue at key points during the week. The main parade is scheduled for Thursday, May 21, when access changes are expected to be more noticeable.
Vallarta Pride 2026 Road Closures Begin May 17
Puerto Vallarta officials announced several road closures in Centro and the Zona Romántica as the city begins Pride 2026 activities this week.
The restrictions start Sunday, May 17, with the March Against Homophobia. Municipal authorities advised drivers and public transit users to plan ahead, use alternate routes, and allow extra time when moving through the city center.
The first closures are scheduled from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. Affected areas include the north-south lateral lane of Boulevard Francisco Medina Ascencio near Avenida Las Américas, the central lane near Calle Perú, and Avenida México between San Salvador and Venezuela.
Calle Perú is expected to remain open as a southbound detour connecting toward Morelos.
Closures Continue During Pride Week
The Pride week traffic plan continues early Tuesday, May 19, for the Block Party. Closures are expected on Constitución, from Aquiles Serdán to Venustiano Carranza, and on Lázaro Cárdenas, from Insurgentes to Pino Suárez.
Officials said Ignacio L. Vallarta and Insurgentes should remain open during that closure. That detail matters for residents, workers, and visitors trying to move through the Zona Romántica without getting trapped inside smaller streets.
The biggest disruption is expected on Thursday, May 21, the day of the Pride Parade. Access for urban buses toward the center will be restricted from 5:00 a.m. through Honduras and Perú. Additional closures are scheduled from 2:00 p.m. along Francisco Medina Ascencio, Calle Perú, and Avenida México.
Vallarta Pride 2026 runs from May 17 to May 24 under the theme “La nueva era: Un pride muy mexicano.” The official event calendar lists the main parade for Thursday, May 21, at 4:00 p.m. on the Malecón.
Zona Romántica Drivers Should Expect Delays
Traffic impacts will also reach Friday, May 22, when Calle Púlpito is expected to close for the Drag Derby. The closure will cover the stretch from Amapas to Olas Altas.
Pilitas will serve as the alternate route during that event. Still, drivers should expect tighter traffic in the surrounding area, especially near restaurants, hotels, bars, and beach access points.
For residents and visitors staying in the Zona Romántica, walking may be easier than driving during peak event hours. Anyone using ride-share services, taxis, or buses should check pickup points before heading out, since normal stops may shift near closure zones.
The closures are part of the city’s effort to manage crowd movement and event logistics during one of Puerto Vallarta’s busiest LGBTQ+ weeks. Centro, the Malecón, and the Zona Romántica are expected to see the heaviest activity.
