Puerto Vallarta Prepares to Welcome 13 Cruise Ships in February, Hosting Over 54,000 Tourists

Puerto Vallarta is gearing up to receive 13 cruise ships throughout the month of February, according to the arrival schedule announced by the National Port System Administration (Asipona). Although this figure marks a decline compared to previous months, the influx of cruise passengers and crew members is expected to provide a substantial economic boost to the local tourism sector.

One of the key highlights of the month will be the arrival of the luxurious MS The World, a residential cruise ship often described as a floating city. The vessel will dock in Puerto Vallarta from Saturday, February 1, until its departure on Monday, February 3.

Another major contributor to February’s cruise activity is the Carnival Panorama, scheduled to dock three times throughout the month. The Discovery Princess, one of the largest ships operated by Princess Cruises, will also make its presence felt with four Wednesday arrivals.

Additionally, the month features one double arrival, scheduled for Monday, February 3, bringing a higher-than-usual surge of tourists and crew members to the port.

Each cruise ship typically carries around 3,000 passengers and 1,200 crew members. With 13 ships scheduled to arrive, Puerto Vallarta is preparing to welcome over 54,000 visitors from the cruise industry in February alone.

These arrivals are expected to inject close to 100 million pesos into the local economy, as data from the Federal Government’s Tourism Secretariat indicates that each tourist spends approximately $100 USD during their visit.

The port city’s cruise season, which saw a period of prosperity over the past three months, is gradually winding down. While cruise ships will continue to dock at a rate of more than ten per month until May, a gradual decrease in tourist arrivals is anticipated as the season progresses.

Local businesses, tour operators, and service providers are likely to feel the effects of this seasonal shift. However, the steady stream of ships arriving in February signals continued opportunities for Puerto Vallarta’s tourism sector to thrive.
