Puerto Vallarta water outage affects almost 40 neighborhoods as Seapal conducts emergency repairs on El Mangal tank; service disruption from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today.
A widespread Puerto Vallarta water outage will leave almost 40 neighborhoods without running water for most of Tuesday, May 27, 2025. In a post on its social-media channels, the Puerto Vallarta Drinking Water, Drainage and Sewerage System (Seapal Vallarta) announced the interruption as part of an emergency repair effort.
Seapal Vallarta traced the supply cut to a problem on the filling line at the El Mangal tank, a key reservoir on Victor Iturbe Avenue near its junction with Amatista Avenue. Technicians discovered a fault in the feeding mechanism early Tuesday morning and moved swiftly to isolate the line and begin repairs. While crews work to restore full capacity, the system is unable to pump water into its distribution network.
Service in the municipality officially halted at 9 a.m. and is scheduled to resume by 8 p.m. the same day. Customers in the affected zones will experience low pressure or no supply at all during those hours. Seapal Vallarta recommended that residents store enough water for drinking, cooking, hygiene and basic cleaning until service returns.
“We regret the inconvenience and appreciate everyone’s patience as our teams carry out this urgent repair,” Seapal Vallarta stated. “We will post updates on our social-media pages should the restoration timeline change.”

Residents in hotels, restaurants and other businesses within these areas should make contingency plans now. Many local eateries have begun sourcing bottled water for cooking and handwashing, while hotels are notifying guests in advance and providing bottled water at no charge. Homeowners are sending out jugs to family members and keeping taps closed until the network comes back online.
For vulnerable groups—such as seniors, young children or those with medical needs—having a reserve supply of clean water is especially important. Seapal Vallarta advises families to fill bathtubs and large containers before 9 a.m. for emergency use. Keep drinking water in sealed bottles, and boil or treat any water of uncertain origin.
This outage underscores the age and critical role of Puerto Vallarta’s municipal water infrastructure. The El Mangal tank services both residential neighborhoods and many tourist areas, making regular maintenance essential. Seapal Vallarta schedules preventive upkeep throughout the year, but unexpected faults sometimes force emergency work.
City authorities stress that preserving water remains vital even outside of planned outages. Households are urged to fix leaks promptly, install low-flow fixtures and limit non-essential use. “Every drop counts,” a municipal spokesperson said. “Conserving water now helps reduce the strain on our network and avoids future emergencies.”
Seapal Vallarta will issue a follow-up notice on its Facebook and Twitter pages once service fully returns. Customers can also call the Seapal hotline or check the official website for real-time updates. Officials thank everyone for their understanding as crews work to restore full flow by Tuesday evening.
