PUERTO VALLARTA, Jalisco, Sept. 3, 2026 — Seven local IMSS patients who survived breast cancer are scheduled for breast reconstruction surgery during the second week of October.
Dr. Jesús Alejandro Maciel Miranda announced the procedures, citing cooperation among local IMSS officials, Fundación Voluntarias Contra el Cáncer, and the Mexican Mastology Association.
The surgeries will coincide with the XXIII Mexican Congress of Mastology, scheduled for Oct. 7-10 in Puerto Vallarta. The Puerto Vallarta International Convention Center also lists the medical conference on its October event calendar.
A defined benefit for seven patients
“In Vallarta, we are going to benefit seven patients,” Maciel Miranda said in the announcement.
He said the local IMSS system will make its facilities available. All seven patients are IMSS beneficiaries, according to the announcement.
The information released Thursday describes a selected group of seven patients. It does not announce open registration or a broader public application process.
The medical association identifies Maciel Miranda as a plastic and reconstructive surgeon participating in its Puerto Vallarta congress. His listed specialties include breast reconstruction and microsurgery.
Partnership expands an established program
Fundación Voluntarias Contra el Cáncer operates the Reconstruyendo Vidas program, which combines reconstructive surgery with psychological and patient-support services.
The foundation says the program has completed more than 380 reconstructive surgeries without charging patients since 2013.
The foundation’s role in Puerto Vallarta includes supporting the seven patients and working with the medical association and IMSS. The organizations have not identified the specific IMSS facility where the procedures will occur.
Fundraising gala will be held in Guadalajara
The foundation will hold its 12th annual Cena Gala Pasarela on Oct. 1 to raise money for the broader Reconstruyendo Vidas program.
The official event information places the gala at Viveros San Martín, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Guadalajara.
Admission is listed at 2,400 pesos. The foundation provides the WhatsApp number 33 3444 7980 for reservations and sponsorship information.
The foundation says gala proceeds support reconstructive surgeries and other patient services. Its materials do not state that the money will be reserved exclusively for the seven Puerto Vallarta procedures.
Puerto Vallarta has hosted earlier surgery campaigns
The October partnership follows previous local efforts to provide reconstruction after mastectomy.
In 2023, PVDN reported that eight free procedures had been completed through a separate campaign at Puerto Vallarta Regional Hospital.
The newly announced surgeries concern IMSS beneficiaries and will use IMSS facilities, distinguishing them from the earlier Regional Hospital program.
