Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Sept. 2, 2026 — President Claudia Sheinbaum will hold accountability events in Jalisco and Nayarit on Saturday, Sept. 5, during a 10-state tour following her second annual government report.
The published itinerary places the Jalisco event in Tlajomulco de Zúñiga at 2:30 p.m. The Nayarit event is scheduled in Tepic at 6:45 p.m. No Puerto Vallarta stop appears on the schedule.
Sheinbaum said Wednesday that the state presentations will address federal water, highway, rail and other public works.
“Now we are going to explain every project we are carrying out and its progress,” she said in Spanish.
Local stakes for Puerto Vallarta
For this report, we compared Saturday’s itinerary with the latest federal and local records for projects affecting Banderas Bay. The most immediate unresolved issue is the opening of the Amado Nervo bridge.
The latest detailed federal update, issued June 23, placed construction at 80% and projected completion in July. That target passed without an official opening.
On Aug. 24, Claudia Araujo Gómez, director of the federal transportation agency’s Nayarit office, said the bridge was nearly finished. Crews were completing painting, cleaning and road-safety work.
“We are waiting for Mexico City to inform us of the date,” Araujo said in Spanish. Authorities began guarding the bridge at night after motorists entered before its formal opening.
The bridge remains closed to regular traffic until federal authorities authorize its use.
The 930 million-peso project crosses the Río Ameca between San Vicente, Nayarit, and Ixtapa, Puerto Vallarta. Its approaches connect with Federal Highway 200 and Jalisco Route 544.
Federal plans call for three lanes in each direction. The transportation agency estimates the bridge will serve about 500,000 residents and reduce some trips by up to 25 minutes. Those projections include commuter and tourism traffic between Puerto Vallarta and Bahía de Banderas.
PVDN reported when construction began that the bridge was intended to provide a second major connection across the northern metropolitan area. It also forms part of a wider road network that includes the Las Juntas interchange.
Puerto Vallarta’s City Council added another local change this week. Council members renamed the access segment between the bridge and Carretera a Las Palmas as Avenida Amado Nervo. The remaining sections of Avenida Federación retain their existing name.
Regional reports rather than local appearances
Saturday’s Jalisco presentation is scheduled at Valle de la Arena VFG in Tlajomulco de Zúñiga, near the Guadalajara metropolitan area. The Nayarit presentation will follow at the Explanada de la Feria in Tepic.
Both appearances are listed as “Honestidad y resultados” government-report events. The published schedule does not identify either one as an Amado Nervo bridge inauguration.
Jalisco Gov. Pablo Lemus’ administration included the bridge among the federal-state projects highlighted after Sheinbaum’s annual report. The list also included Guadalajara-area water, highway and public transportation projects.
The tour begins Thursday with events in Morelos and Durango. Friday’s schedule covers Zacatecas, San Luis Potosí and Aguascalientes. After Saturday’s western stops, Sheinbaum is scheduled to visit Nuevo León and Coahuila on Sunday.
